For inquiries contact: reelpeople.reelabilities@nyu.edu[:es]ReelPeople, ReelAbilities is a university-wide film competition open to everyone in the NYU community including the recent Class of 2019 graduates for films made by, for, and about people with disabilities. This is an initiative made possible through the collaborative efforts between many different organizations at NYU and the ReelAbilities International Film Festival.
Through this initiative, we aim to spread social awareness regarding people with diverse abilities, combat ableism, and connect members of the NYU community to the resources that they require. In addition, we want this opportunity to be a launching platform for filmmakers and storytellers with diverse abilities who are looking to go into the industry. We are striving to accomplish this goal by having carefully selected our judges panel, using our existing resources and connections to publicize the competition in order to attract attendance from industry professionals for our final screening ceremony, and making everything throughout this entire process as accessible as possible to everyone.
Therefore, we are very honored to be able to say that the Emmy Award winning director, disability rights activist, and entrepreneur Jason DaSilva will be joining our official judges panel. Alongside him, we welcome Professor Faye Ginsburg—current Director of the NYU Center for Media, Culture and History and Co-director of the NYU Center for Disabilities—and Professor Alice Elliott—an Academy Award nominated director and Distinguished Teacher at NYU Tisch.
As we want to make sure that accommodations is properly made for those who are interested in this initiative, please let us know if you require any special assistance throughout the competition process, and especially at the final screening ceremony (i.e. ASL support at the information sessions).
Please note that you must submit to the competition through FilmFreeway with your NYU Email account. Any submission that is done through a non-NYU email address will be disqualified and disregarded. Please refer to Rules & Terms for more details.
